Product care

Every lujo piece is designed to endure. From durable hardwoods to commercial-grade textiles, the materials and components we select are chosen for their strength, resilience and ability to perform beautifully indoors and outdoors.

With simple care and occasional maintenance, your furniture will continue to provide comfort, structure and quiet elegance for many years. Many materials will also develop character over time, softening and evolving naturally with use and exposure to the elements.

The following guidance outlines how best to care for the materials used across the lujo collection.

HARDWOOD PIECES

lujo hardwood pieces are crafted from carefully selected timbers chosen for their strength, stability and natural beauty.

Designed to live comfortably outdoors, these materials age gracefully and develop character through the seasons, while maintaining structural integrity.

With simple care, our hardwood furniture will continue to look and perform beautifully for many years.

General cleaning

Brush or rinse occasionally with fresh water to remove dust, pollen and everyday debris.

For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly.

Avoid harsh detergents or pressure washing, as these may damage the timber surface.

Oiling (optional)

Applying hardwood oil periodically will maintain the timber’s rich color and depth.

If left untreated, hardwood will gradually weather to an elegant silver-grey patina. This transformation is purely aesthetic and does not affect the integrity of the timber.

Natural character

As with all natural materials, hardwood displays unique grain patterns, tonal variation and subtle seasonal movement. These qualities form part of the individuality and enduring appeal of each lujo piece.

Kwila Tannin Bleed

Kwila hardwood contains abundant natural oils which make it extremely durable in harsh outdoor environments. During the early months of exposure to moisture, natural tannins may occasionally bleed from the timber.

This is a normal characteristic of kwila and typically settles after the timber has weathered through several rain cycles. To minimize bleeding we recommend the following:

If possible, allow the timber base to sit on lawn during its first exposure or two to rain before placing it on decking, tiles or patios.

In dry conditions, hose the timber down daily for several days, allowing it to dry between rinses. Ensure water reaches all surfaces, including the underside.

If tannin residue appears on surrounding surfaces, allow it to dry naturally and brush away the powder residue, or use a suitable outdoor cleaner appropriate for the surface.

If tannin contacts fabric covers:

·         Hose off promptly

·         Allow the fabric to dry in the sun

·         Brush away any remaining residue once dry.

CUSHIONS & SQUABS

Our outdoor cushions and squabs are designed to withstand everyday outdoor conditions, however simple care will help extend their lifespan.

Recommended care:

·         Brush or hose off loose dirt regularly

·         Machine wash covers if and when required

·         Allow cushions or squabs to air dry fully after rain

·         Store indoors during prolonged wet weather where possible

·         Use protective covers when not in use for extended periods

BEAN BAGS

Wearing In

Due to the robust nature of the textiles we manufacture with, bean bags can be firm to begin with, but naturally soften and settle with use as the filling and fabrics adapt with use.

This wearing-in process enhances comfort over time and is a normal characteristic of the product.

Refilling Beans

Over time, bean filling will gradually compress, allowing you to sink into the bean bag more.

If your bean bag begins to feel underfilled, additional beans can easily be added to the internal liner, preserving comfort and structure.

We recommend removing the liner prior to refilling, then vacuuming off any beads prior to placing back in the cover.

Removable Covers & Cleaning

All lujo bean bags, cushions and squabs feature removable covers, allowing them to be cleaned or refreshed when required.

Some covers may be machine washable on a gentle cycle, others may require professional or dry cleaning.

Always refer to the specific care instructions for your fabric collection (see below).

Replacement covers are available for many lujo pieces should they require renewal after extended use, or if you wish to refresh your piece with a different fabric or color.

HAMMOCKS

lujo hammocks are designed for durability and relaxed outdoor living.

Cleaning

Brush or hose off loose dirt regularly, allowing to air dry

Clean with mild soap and water as required. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.

Seasonal storage

To prolong lifespan, we recommend using our protective covers or storing hammocks indoors during winter or extended periods of non-use.

Safe use

Ensure stands or mounting systems are correctly assembled and observe the recommended weight limits.

SUN EXPOSURE

Performance textiles are designed to resist fading, however prolonged exposure to intense sunlight may gradually soften colour over time.

COASTAL ENVIRONMENTS

In coastal locations, airborne salt can gradually accumulate on outdoor furniture.

Occasional rinsing with fresh water will help remove salt deposits and maintain the appearance of timber, metals and fabrics.

Allow fabrics to dry naturally

POOLSIDE ENVIRONMENTS

Furniture placed near pools may be exposed to chlorine or pool chemicals.

Occasional rinsing with fresh water will help remove chemical residue and maintain the appearance of timber, metals and fabrics.

Allow fabrics to dry naturally

Avoid prolonged contact with highly concentrated pool chemicals

WINTER STORAGE & PROTECTION

While lujo furniture is designed to endure outdoor environments for many years, protecting pieces during harsh seasonal conditions will help extend their lifespan.

Where possible:

·         Store cushions and soft furnishings indoors during winter

·         Use outdoor covers to protect furniture where applicable

·         Ensure airflow around covered pieces to prevent moisture build up

REPLACEMENT PARTS & LONGEVITY

lujo pieces are designed with longevity in mind. Many components can be replaced if required over time.

Available replacement components may include:

·         Fabric covers

·         Bean bag liners

·         Bean filling

·         Foam inserts

·         Components and parts

This modular approach helps extend the life of your furniture while reducing unnecessary waste.

FABRIC & TEXTILE CARE

lujo uses commercial-grade upholstery fabrics selected for durability, colorfastness and resistance to everyday wear.

Many of our textiles are engineered for demanding outdoor environments, while others are designed specifically for interior spaces. With routine care, these fabrics will maintain their appearance and performance over time.
